Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic

Madden Industrial Craftsmen is seeking a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic for our client in Portland, OR. This person will maintain and repair equipment using personal hand tools. Ensure regular attendance and compliance with safety and DOT regulations.

Pay: $35-37/hr

Shift: Monday-Friday 6am to 2:30pm.

Shift: Monday-Friday 2pm to 10:30pm.

Responsibilities:

• Repair hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, and pumps.

• Rewire low-voltage electrical systems.

• Replace tires, brakes, clutches, and drivetrain components.

• Conduct preventive maintenance on equipment and vehicles.

• Perform building and yard maintenance.

• Weld and fabricate as needed.

• Maintain accurate repair logs and records.

• Operate vehicles and equipment (forklifts, cranes, loaders) safely.

• Complete paperwork accurately and keep shop clean.

• Travel to other yards using company service truck (valid driver’s license required).

Knowledge and Skills:

• Experience with hydraulic and electrical diagnostics.

• Familiarity with welding and fabrication.

• Ability to maintain vehicles per DOT regulations.

• Engine overhaul experience (gasoline/diesel) is a plus.

• Proficient with precision and diagnostic tools.

Tool Requirements:

• Hand tools up to 1.5” size, air tools up to 0.5” drive.

• Diagnostic tools for electrical/hydraulic troubleshooting.

• Large roll-away and top toolbox.

• Familiarity with grinders, sledgehammers, hoists, hydraulic jacks, and chains.

Working Conditions:

• All weather conditions; exposure to metals, fuels, oils, and compressed gases (oxygen, acetylene, argon).

Physical Demands:

• Stand/walk up to 8 hours/day; sit up to 4 hours/day.

• Lift up to 55 lbs. regularly, 100 lbs. occasionally.

• Push/pull up to 100 lbs.

• Bend, reach, and twist frequently (20-30% of shift).
